Research study exploring back pain self-management strategies - a call for participants

Calling all GPs, First Contact Practitioners and physiotherapists working in self-referral services - Help improve understanding around primary care clinicians’ experiences of delivering self-management advice to patients returning to services with persistent or recurring low back pain.

About the research study: (University of Southampton Ethics 14/09/23 ERGO 81238)

The purpose of this study is to improve understanding around primary care clinicians’ experiences of delivering self-management advice to patients returning to services with persistent or recurring low back pain. We are recruiting GPs, First Contact Practitioners and physiotherapists working in self-referral services in profession specific groups to take part in an online (Microsoft teams) focus group interview. The focus group discussion will explore clinicians’ practice experiences, opinions and beliefs surrounding self-management strategies and will last up to 1 hour. There will be no further follow-up required and clinicians’ identity and service in which they work will be anonymised.

What is needed to participate:

The planned focus group will take place in November [15.11.23, 20.11.23 at 12.30—13.30 and 27.11.23 at 17.00-18.00] and participants will need access to a laptop/computer, with camera and microphone with stable internet in a quiet/private location. A letter of participation in research can be provided following the online focus group which can be used as evidence of CPD.
