The PPA Research Bursaries are open to applications with an extended deadline until 14th February.
The PPA aims to support pain related research activity of members.
The PPA Research Bursary has opened, with an extended closing date of 14th February 2022. These bursaries aim to support physiotherapists and physiotherapy students to undertake pain related research activity. There are two funding streams available, each one will be able to offer financial support to enable small scale research related projects. To find out more and to apply, click here.
Two projects were funded in 2021:
- "Co-creation of a pain zine-library: Exploring a novel way to communicate pain experiences and potentially target stigma" Camille Leteurtre, INPUT Pain Management Service
- A co-design project - "Undertaking focus groups, observations and patient storytelling to inform service development" Sophie Turner, Optimise Pain Rehabilitation Unit is completing
“Receiving the PPA bursary will enable me to reimburse patients for their time and involvement in carrying out a co-design project, undertaking focus groups and observations to inform service development. It is great knowing that this support is available to assist with meeting the recommendations of how such projects should be optimally carried out.”
"The PPA bursary application was the first grant application I have ever filled. While I was sharing some ideas out loud, being encouraged to actually apply for the PPA bursary gave me a sense of validation that is precious in the process of starting something new, especially when it is as intimidating as research can be. The PPA bursary allowed me to be in line with patient, public involvement and engagement guidelines, and to really recognise the value of such an involvement."
The outcomes of these projects are eagerly awaited and they will be featured in the Pain and Rehabilitation journal once the projects have been completed.
If you are engaging in research activity, please consider applying for a PPA Research Bursary to expand your project or increase its reach. The committee want to support the excellent work of PPA members, so please contact Jackie or Selina if you wish to check the suitability of your project.
