Embodiment of Trauma-informed practice - WORKSHOP

Current research highlights that psychological trauma has an embodied component, often seen in a wide variety of physical symptoms. Evidence suggests a link between different chronic pain syndromes, for example Fibromyalgia, and history of traumatic events. However, trauma-informed treatment models that incorporate embodied and movement-based methods are, to date, limited in accessibility for AHPs. Principles from Dance Movement Psychotherapy will be used to explore alternative avenues of trauma work in this one-day experiential workshop, where we will have the opportunity to reflect upon and consider the ways we can offer trauma-informed practice to our patients.

This workshop aims at:

  • Increased understanding of psychological trauma as a pathological condition
  • Increased knowledge of the impact trauma can have on the body
  • Enhanced awareness of our physical and embodied selves
  • Knowledge of relevant and basic principles of Dance Movement Psychotherapy

What to Expect:

The structure of the day will combine theoretical knowledge, movement exercises, and opportunities for reflection, while we will alternate between moving and talking. We will explore the link between thoughts, emotions and physical movement, and space will be given for discussion. It is advised to wear comfortable and layered cloths and bring something to write on.
